James L. Matteucci is Chairman of the Board for Bank of the Southwest, a premier full service and family-owned bank serving the people of New Mexico.
Born on June 29th 1965 in Roswell, New Mexico, James has been a life long resident of New Mexico. He received a bachelorís degree in business administration and marketing from Eastern New Mexico University in 1989. Following graduation, he moved to Phoenix to work in his family wholesale liquor company. He returned to Roswell in 1992 and started his employment with Bank of the Southwest. From 1996 to 2000, James also worked for Bank Consultants Inc. in Carlsbad, New Mexico. In 2000, he became Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the bank. Since 2003, James has been serving as Chairman of the Board. Community involvement is very important to James. He is involved in many community events and charities including the New Mexico Amigos, Hike it & Spike It 4 on 4 Flag Football Annual Tournament, Chaves County Development Foundation, United Way of Chaves County, Sun Classic Charity Golf Tournament, and the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center Board of Trustees.James has one daughter Chelsi, his mother Sandra and sister Anna Maria. James is an avid reader, and enjoys playing golf, playing chess, and watching movies.
After graduating from Pepperdine University with a degree in business Ms. Matteucci worked a year for Senator Domenici in Washington, D.C. Moving back to Albuquerque, New Mexico and later to Phoenix, Arizona. She began her tenure working in the family wholesale liquor, beer and wine business. Before moving back to Roswell in 1999, Ms. Matteucci received her Masters Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. Charitable involvements include the Junior League of Phoenix, Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, and the Historical Society of Southeast New Mexico. She is an avid dog lover and enjoys cruising around the world.
Ron G. Wiser, President and CEO of Bank of the Southwest, resides in Roswell with his wife, Cynthia and three sons. Mr. Wiser has over 25 years of banking related experience and has been with Bank of the Southwest for almost ten years, joining the Bank in 1996 as President and CEO. A graduate of Utah State University with a BA in Accounting and a MBA, Mr. Wiser moved to New Mexico in 1980. He began an accounting career as a certified public accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick in Albuquerque and then moved to First National Bank of Belen in 1985 where he left in 1995 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In addition, Ron has completed the Bank Management Program, Bank Administration Institute at Duke University in 1989 and also the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, American Bankers' Association at the University of Delaware in 1994. Mr. Wiser is very active in civic and community affairs serving on many boards and committees including the Western States School of Banking, the New Mexico Bankers Association, the Roswell Rotary Club, Boy Scouts-Conquistador Council, the United Way of Chaves County, and the Roswell Library Foundation. Active in his local church and congregation, Mr. Wiser also enjoys spending time with his family, playing the piano and jogging.
Rick Bertram, Executive Vice President and Senior Lender at Bank of the Southwest, has 22 years of banking experience with six of those years at Bank of the Southwest. He also spent two years with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He has attended the National Commercial Lending School and numerous other banking related courses. Mr. Bertram has expertise in commercial and consumer lending, collections, government guaranteed lending, loan marketing, and the lending regulatory environment. He was raised in New Mexico and understands the intercultural nature of the State and the responsibility financial institutions have to serve all the people as required by our charter.
Wanda L. Porter, Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Bank of the Southwest, resides in Roswell. Ms. Porter has over 28 years of banking experience, with over 11 of those years with Bank of the Southwest. Ms. Porter is a lifelong resident on New Mexico, previously living in Carlsbad, where she was employed by Western Commerce Bank. Ms. Porter graduated from New Mexico State University with an Associates Degree in Pre-Business. She is also a graduate of Western States School of Banking and has completed many other banking courses through the American Institute of Banking. Ms. Porter is very active in civic and community affairs serving on many boards and committees including Camp Fire, Inc., Girls, Inc., Business and Professional Women, both on the local and state level, Roswell Main Street, and the Roswell Chamber of Commerce Red Coats.
Shelagh B Marzett, Senior Vice President/Senior Compliance Officer for Bank of the Southwest, returned to Roswell and to Bank of the Southwest in December 2006. A native of New Mexico, Ms Marzett was born and raised in Carlsbad, where she began her banking career with Western Commerce Bank in December of 1972. Education includes New Mexico State University at Carlsbad, Draughnís Business College and numerous banking classes and conferences, many through American Bankers Association, New Mexico Bankers Association, and Texas Bankers Association. Ms Marzett is a Certified Community Bank Compliance Officer. After spending several years associated with a large Texas bank, she was very glad for the experience but is happy to be back in New Mexico and with Bank of the Southwest. Ms Marzett enjoys reading, visiting and corresponding with family and friends.
